What does baricitinib do?
Baricitinib inhibits JAK enzymes, particularly JAK1 and JAK2. JAK enzymes are involved in intracellular signaling from cytokines that regulate immune responses and inflammation.
This mechanism is relevant to diseases in which excessive or dysregulated immune signaling contributes to symptoms and tissue inflammation. EMA describes baricitinib as reducing inflammatory activity through inhibition of Janus kinases.
Barigen versus Olumiant
Barigen and Olumiant should not be presented as the same branded product.
Both contain the active pharmaceutical ingredient baricitinib, but brand names, manufacturers, formulations, packaging and regulatory authorizations can differ.
Olumiant is the Lilly-associated branded product whose current U.S. label is published in DailyMed.
Barigen is separately identified in public product sources as a 4 mg baricitinib product associated with General Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
